I recently visited the new Public hotel and Pump Room in the gold coast of Chicago. The strikingly white lobby instantly grabbed my attention. I love the gorgeous chandeliers and detailed ceilings. The entrance to the hotel is on the smaller side with a few steps leading up.to the front desk, situated to the right of the staircase, hidden from site. I was disappointed that the first thing you see upon entering is the business center, rather than the front desk or an inviting lounge area.
The Pump Room restaurant and bar is situated to the left of the hotel staircase. The bar area is on the smaller side, roughly 10-15 seats with a few tables scattered throughout. I love the half rounded ceiling behind the bar. The pump room restaurant is scattered with a variety of round, illuminated ball lighting fixtures that descend from the ceiling to the floor. These fixtures add a nice glow and warmth to the space.
I tried their whole wheat pizza on their lunch menu and was pleasantly impressed. The whole wheat pizza was thin and very crispy, which is often very difficult to accomplish perfectly. There aren’t very many restaurants in Chicago that can pull off a perfectly crisp pizza. The toppings of cheeses and spinach mixed with arugula was a perfect combination. I will definitely be back for the food along with several others who have found this Chicago gem! I tried to make a reservation for a Friday evening and was told that they do not have any reservations available for the next two months on Friday and Saturday evenings. Now, that’s a GOOD problem to have!
Have you visited this new Chicago hot spot? If so, what are your thoughts? We'd love to hear your CHIC opinion.
Cheers!
